  1. Once again, you can pencil Charlie and I in for Cabin 9. Looking forward to seeing the return of the Cabin 2 crew and all the rest who weren't able to make it last year. They were all missed.
  2. Who knew there were so many? You can always ctrl-f and type in rock or prog or pop or whatever. Wondering how the locations of things relate. Who knew there were bands closer to Floyd than Waters and Gilmour?
  3. Every Noise At Once Description It's a giant map of virtually every musical genre imaginable. "The point of the map ... is an attempt – however uneven, idiosyncratic, and incomplete – to embrace this new state of the world, in which nearly all of humanityʼs recorded music is streamable or downloadable, and give you a way to find out what you donʼt know you donʼt know. Click any genre in the map and youʼll hear what we think is a representative song. These arenʼt always ideal, but theyʼre close. Click the » next to a genre for a similarly-clickable audio-map of the artists weʼve extrapolated for it. Hit “scan” at the top of any genre page, and youʼll take a randomized car radiostyle journey through that genre. Hit “scan” at the top of the main map and your car will careen wildly around the entire planet."
  4. As a totally non-jazz guy that got switched onto it by the Jazzman, my vote goes to Kind of Blue Cafe Blue But God, seems a crime to leave out Diana Krall You're right this is difficult!
  5. Great video in that link: Just chillin' with Page listenin' to it on vinyl while he explains how they made it. It was fun again.
  6. A forensic musicologist discusses Stairway vs Taurus vs Other Stuff Listen Here: 4 min 42 sec
  7. Did that my first year. Who knew bunkbeds could be that comfortable? Hope you make it again this year.

    R.I.P. Prince

Watching it now here There was a girl that came over to my house after school every day and made me play that damn video while she danced around the living room. Forgot all about that until today. Sad to see another piece of youth gone. RIP Prince.
  9. Been trying to put my finger on it, too. Could it be Is There Anybody Out There? from about 1:24? This part kind of reminds me of it. Still thinking there might be something else in The Wall that's closer.
  10. I loved me some Led Zep as a teenager. Still, they plagiarized the hell out of many blues greats and they've lost many lawsuits as a result. It was only a matter of time until this thing with Stairway and Spirit finally went to court. They were on tour with Spirit and had to have heard it. It's great that they brought this music to a wider audience. I'll give them that. Full article here
  11. Wow, that's really cool. I'm sure his wife loves it! Bruce Swedien: Recording Michael Jackson Legendary engineer on Thriller "one of the deleterious side-effects of tape-based multitracking: that repeated playback of the [master] tape during the overdubbing and production process would progressively dull the transients of previous recorded tracks." "So what I would do would be to record the rhythm section on a 24 track tape, then take that tape and put it away and wouldn't play it again until the final mix. And holy cow what a difference that made! It was just incredible."
  12. Mine are alll flac files fron the internetz. Thriller Special Edition 2001 and Thriller 25th Anniversary Edition, neither of which are spectacular, dynamically speaking. It appears there's an SACD and many vinyl cuts plus some digital downloads out there in the 17-18 range. I'm sure they'd really slam the crap out of those tweeters. Thriller, Original Vinyl : DR17 -0.05 dB -18.01 dB 06 Billie Jean.wav Thriller, Acoustic Sounds DSD download: DR18 -2.57 dB -21.37 dB 4:54 06-Billie Jean Thriller SACD: DR17 -0.44 dB -19.04 dB 4:54 06-Billie Jean Source: http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/list?artist=michael+jackson&album=thriller Michael Jackson wasn't really on my radar as I've always thought of Thriller as music for 10 year old girls. But then I went to buy a Rane AC-23b from a guy described as 'a bit eccentric' out on Tybee Island. I get there and this guy is over the top, for sure. Retired electrical engineer. Entire system handbuilt. Speakers, tube amps, tube crossovers! None of the manufactured stuff is good enough for him anymore, hence the sale of the Rane. I have to just about beg the guy to let me hear something. He selects a Thriller 'half speed master' (not that I have any idea what the hell that is at the time) And he tells me offhandedly that Michael Jackson had the highest standards in the studio. So, he lets me hear about 30 seconds of it, VERY loud and phenomenally clear. Stops the record and I'm kinda standing there open-mouthed. He hands me the Rane, takes my money , and dismisses me, still stunned. That was about 5 years ago. I'd love to hear that setup again.
  13. I've lost count of how many tweeter fuses I've blown with Billie Jean.
